U.S. markets opened higher and showed some momentum throughout Thursday’s session, while holding onto slight gains into the closing bell. The Russell 2000 showed the most strength after rising just over 0.3% to remain within 1% of its record high. The Dow fell shy of its all-time high by 37 points, but notched its 71st record close of the year after gaining 0.3%.
The S&P 500 added 0.2% and came within 7 points of a fresh lifetime high. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq showed some morning weakness after the open, but managed to clear near-term resistance after also rising 0.2%.

U.S. markets avoided a three-session slide after squeaking out slight gains following another tight trading range. The Dow and S&P 500 climbed 0.1% and remain less than 1% away from all-time highs. The Nasdaq rose 3 points, or 0.04%, but failed to take out the prior high from last Friday. The Russell 2000 pushed near-term resistance before slipping a third-point, or 0.02%, into the closing bell.

U.S. markets traded in a fairly tight range to start the shortened week while finishing mixed on light volume. The Nasdaq was the session laggard after falling 0.3% while trading in negative territory throughout the session.
The S&P 500 and the Dow slipped 0.1% and 0.03%, respectively, after showing some strength on the open while failing Friday’s highs. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 added 0.1% after trading in a 5-point range but also made a lower low than the previous session.
