The news in the United States is ugly all around. For something different, here's some interesting stuff out of Africa—the continent of 55 states (approximately) that Americans, including former presidents, love to lump together without a second thought.
1. After the Supreme Court annulled Kenya's recent election and ordered a re-run, protesters hit the streets—all part of loser Raila Odinga's plan to sow distrust.
2. A dead cow has become a loaded symbol in Togo.
3. Lawmakers in Uganda are brawling in parliament over a bill to remove the presidential age limit—a limit that 75% of the country wants maintained.
Ain't pretty:

4. The continent's largest contemporary art museum is about to open in some former Cape Town grain silos. It will be the tallest tower built in sub-Saharan Africa in nearly half a century.

But there's controversy over the museum's namesake, who's simply loaning out his collection, plus the "overarching amount of white male voices" involved.
One is reminded of Sartre’s words about how the white man has enjoyed the privilege of seeing without being seen for the past 3,000 years.
5. Here's a list of emerging African fashion designers (see also: a recent New Yorker profile of Nigeria's Amaka Osakwe) and a list of the continent's greenest buildings.
Much credit to "This Week in Africa" for inspiring this list and supplying several of these stories. Highly recommended.
